Social Media not so social

Social Media not so social

Yesterday I was given a simple request. Can you please send me screenshots of some brands doing a good job of integrating social media into their corporate sites. I thought it’d be a piece of cake… Not so.

I was looking for a site that included the standard share or follow us buttons, plus some latest twitter or blog feeds and then for the trifecta I would have loved to have seen a RSS subscription or even a become a fan button. This was honestly a very difficult task and the only site I could really find that was getting close to this criteria was Johnson and Johnson’s BTW http://jnjbtw.com/ This site ticked all the boxes but for me, it doesn’t really count as it’s basically a blog, opening the door on their company. (it’s a great start but compared to other big brands)

Personally I don’t think enough is being done to integrate social media into corporate websites specifically their homepages as this is first impression we ever get of a company online. Simple things like having your latest tweet or blog post encourage users to really see what you are all about and really isn’t that what we all want. I understand that brands need to protect themselves and it maybe a scary thing to do, but in the long run consumers today want honesty and crave information. The more open, transparent and innovative a brand makes themselves the more a consumer will feel safe developing a relationship with them.
